Toddler drowns in a residential pond

ROCHESTER, Ind. -- The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office reports that emergency responders were dispatched at 4:25 p.m. on Monday to a residential pond on Lakeview Bend for an 18-month-old that was found in the water and was not breathing.

Police say a neighbor went into the pond to save the toddler before responders arrived to continue performing lifesaving measures.

The child was then transported to Woodlawn Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police say.

Police say an autopsy will be completed Tuesday morning, but the preliminary investigation suggests that this case is an accidental drowning.

Currently, the investigation into this incident is under the jurisdiction of the Fulton County Coroner’s Office, police say.
