Toddler recovered from St. Joseph River dies

Penn Township Fire, Mishawaka Fire, Saint Joseph County Police, and Indiana Conservation Officers responded to a call about a child who had fallen into deep water Saturday just after 4:00 p.m.

Divers arrived at Baugo Bay in Osceola after 3-year-old, Bryson Washington, fell off the side of a pontoon boat and never resurfaced.

Indiana DNR says that friends and family had been swimming from the boat when the incident happened and Washington had been wearing a life jacket earlier while swimming, but had taken it off after he got back on the boat.

Within about 50 minutes of Washington's disappearance, his body was recovered in an area where the water is approximately 20 feet deep.

He was then rushed to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka where he passed away just before 6:00 p.m. Saturday.
