Toll road crash kills one person near Lake Station

LAKE STATION, Ind. -- Six people were hurt on the Indiana Toll Road and one person died after two trucks collided near Lake Station.

It happened on I-80 just before 5 Tuesday night. Police say the pickup driver, 20-year-old Joshua Garner of Griffith, slammed into a moving truck.

Two people had to be airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The two other victims just 18 and 19 had injuries to their faces and legs. The driver of a pickup truck died at the scene

Westbound traffic was closed for two hours. The driver of that moving truck is from Mishawaka.

Deandre Perry, 22, told police the engine light came on and the moving truck stalled in the middle right lane.

Police say alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash.
