Tolson Center launches healthy meals program for students
ELKHART, Ind. -- The Tolson Center for Community Excellence announced it's launching a new Child and Adult Care Food Program through the Indiana Department of Education to provide healthy meals for children enrolled in local schools.
Starting Sept. 30, officials say the program will provide nourishing snacks and dinner to students Monday through Friday.
The CACFP's goal is to ensure children receive the essential nutrition they need to thrive academically and physically.
Students enrolled in participating schools within the community will have access to the program.
Organizers say the meals are planned to meet nutritional standards, featuring a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and protein sources.
“While students are at Tolson for after-school programs, we believe providing a healthy meal will positively impact their participation, behavior, and learning,” says the Executive Director of Tolson, Dr. Breanna Allen.
Officials encourage local parents to have their child enrolled in after-school programs at Tolson to take full advantage of the benefits.
You can go on Tolson's website to become a member and/or to register your child for a program.
