Toxicology results for Danny Cox, Lakeville Officer released

St. Joseph County Police said Danny Cox, who was killed in a Thursday car crash, had a blood alcohol level of approximately .16 and tested positive for marijuana and cocaine.

Cox's car hit a tree in the 6700 block of Lake Trail in Lakeville around 2:45 a.m. July 25th.

Patrick J. Howard, the Chief of the Lakeville Police Department issued the following statement:

The entire Lakeville Police Department was very shocked, saddened, and dismayed to learn the recent news of the toxicology results of Danny Cox.  Danny had served as a Reserve Officer for the Lakeville Police Department in the past and was still currently on the roster at the time of his death.  However, he had not actively worked for the Department for a considerable period of time.

Danny’s decisions are in no way a reflection of the fine Officers of the Lakeville Police Department. This tragic and untimely loss of life was the result of one person's poor decision making process. Drug use on or off duty has never been, nor will it ever be, tolerated by the Lakeville Police Department.  As a result of this extremely unfortunate incident, the Lakeville Police Department has implemented a new, stricter drug screening policy in order to ensure that this does not happen again.
