Trained K9 retires after years of service with Indiana State Police

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A trained canine for the Indiana State Police has retired. Kazik, the yellow Labrador Retriever, worked with Corporal John Riggers and was trained in detecting explosive devices.

Kazik played a significant role in inspecting downtown Indianapolis for any explosive materials prior to Super Bowl XLVI.

Kazik also provided security for thw100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 and worked details for high-profile events throughout the state of Indiana, including routine inspections of the Indiana Statehouse.

In addition to being certified by the International Police Working Dog Association, Kazik also passed a National Odor Recognition Test administered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Corporal Riggers adopted Kazik as a pet after working with the Labrador since 2011.
