Transpo bus driver claims he fell asleep before hitting tree

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department reports a Transpo bus crashed into a tree Tuesday night at 125 W. Marion St. around 8:59 p.m.

The bus had only one passenger on board at the time. The passenger was taken to the hospital to be checked out for complaints of pain.

The scene was cleared at 12:25 a.m.

The driver told police he fell asleep.

Police say the crash remains under investigation.
