Trio arrested following pursuit with stolen vehicle

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Sunday morning around 12:30 a.m., officer Steven Spadafora spotted a vehicle with no license plate traveling east on Western Avenue, according to the South Bend Police Department.

Spadafora then started his pursuit after the vehicle disregarded a stop sign and began speeding.

The vehicle's occupants, Tisean Overstreet and Desmond Smith, both 18-year-olds, and a juvenile, quickly ended the vehicle pursuit and attempted to escape the scene, according to police.

Officials say officer Spadafora followed the trio on foot and apprehended Overstreet and Smith near the 2900 block of West Poland Street.

An Indiana State Trooper and K9 officer responded to assist and located the juvenile suspect, placing them under arrest.

Two other suspects involved in the situation fled the scene with firearms and escaped arrest.

Officers later learned that the vehicle involved in the pursuit was stolen.

Police also recovered a total of three handguns and an unspecified amount of marijuana.

Smith and Overstreet were transported to the St. Joseph County Jail on multiple charges, while the juvenile suspect is being detained at the Juvenile Justice Center.
