GULF SHORES, Ala. -- Tropical Storm Andrea is stirring up a powerful rip current along the Gulf Coast.

Six teens had to be rescued from the current in Gulf Shores, Alabama on Wednesday.

It is a popular vacation spot on the gulf coast.

The group was on a stretch of beach without lifeguards when they say the waves suddenly got very rough.

One teen was taken to a hospital. His condition has not been released.

Officials are warning swimmers and beachgoers along the East and Gulf Coasts of high surf and rip currents from the tropical storm.
