Truck vs. semi crash kills teen hours before graduation

GRANGER, Ind. -- Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pickup truck and semi tanker truck that happened early Sunday morning.

A source in the Lawrence School District in Michigan said the driver of the pickup, James Reeder, was a senior graduating Sunday night.

Police say Reeder drove his pickup and crossed into oncoming traffic then hit the semi head-on.

The semi's fuel tanks erupted and burst into flames. The tanker portion of the semi had 8,000 gallons of fuel but did not catch fire.

Reeder was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi ran from the burning truck and was transported to Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.
