Two arrested in connection with murder of Michigan City man

Michigan City Police have arrested a 22-year-old on preliminary charges of murder in the death of a man who was killed Thursday evening. A second person is facing a preliminary charge of obstruction of justice.

Nathan Cureton, 22, is facing preliminary charges of murder and attempted robbery, aiding inducing or causing.

Tyler Abbott, 21, has been preliminarily charged with obstruction of justice.

Michigan City Police were called to the 200 block of E. 6th Street around 8:30 p.m. Thursday to investigate the death of 60-year-old Nathanial Havis.

Police said he was shot and killed just hours before his 61st birthday.

Cureton is being held in the La Porte County Jail on a $1 million cash bond.

Abbot is being held on a $2,000 cash bond.
