Two arrested in Elkhart after drugs are seized from house on Harrison Street

ELKHART, Ind. -- Officers with the Elkhart Police Department arrested two people and found over seven pounds of drugs after serving a search warrant at a house in the 700 block of Harrison St. earlier this week.

On April 21, EPD got the search warrant as a result of a drug investigation that included an officer observing multiple people making short-term stops at the residence.

"Officers seized a plant-like substance (purported “tune” or “synthetic marijuana) after stopping some of those individuals," the EPD said.

EPD officers, along with a K9 officer, executed the search warrant around 2:50 p.m. that same day.

"During the execution of the warrant, officers detained multiple individuals inside the residence," the EPD said.

"Officers also seized multiple firearms, THC products/marijuana, and suspected synthetic drugs pursuant to the search warrant. During the execution of the warrant, officers located and seized over seven pounds of finished product and over 28 pounds of unfinished product."

Forty-four-year-old Elkhart resident Joshua Brown and 42-year-old Stephanie Spake, also of Elkhart, were arrested and booked into the Elkhart County Jail.

Brown was arrested on preliminary charges of Dealing in a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance, a Level 2 Felony; Conspiracy to Deal in a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance, a Level 2 Felony; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, a Level 4 Felony; Maintaining a Common Nuisance, a Level 6 Felony; and Possession of Marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor.

He was also arrested and booked on an outstanding probation violation warrant. His bond was set at $250,000 in this case.

Spake was arrested on preliminary charges of Maintaining a Common Nuisance, a Level 6 Felony, and Possession of Marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor. Her bond was set at $3,000.

"These arrests have been forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for review of formal criminal charges," the EPD said. "Please be advised that under Indiana law an individual is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty."
