Two arrested on drug charges following traffic stop
LA GRANGE COUNTY, Ind. -- Two people were arrested on drug charges after being pulled over by an Indiana State Police trooper on SR9 early Thursday.
Around 1:40 a.m., a trooper spotted an Oldsmobile traveling southbound on SR 9 that was traveling in excess of the speed limit, reports said.
The trooper conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which had a plate registered to a different vehicle, police said.
The passenger of the vehicle, 32-year-old Marty O'Brien Jr was asked to get out of the vehicle. When he finally complied, he resisted the trooper.
A second trooper on scene assisted placing O'Brien into custody.
Police said they found a syringe on O'Brien's person.
The driver, 27-year-old Stephanie Wagler, was also asked to exit the car.
LaGrange County Sheriff Deputy Nick Dubea and his K-9 partner Jax conducted a free air sniff around the vehicle.
Jax alerted on the passenger door.
During a search, police said they found a .40 caliber handgun, a .22-caliber handgun, suspected marijuana, suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to reports.
While booking Wagler, police said they found suspected methamphetamine on her person.
Wagler is facing preliminary charges of:
- Possession of methamphetamine, Level 5 Felony
- Possession of a handgun without a license, class A misdemeanor
- Possession of marijuana, class B misdemeanor
- Possession of paraphernalia, class C misdemeanor
O'Brien is facing preliminary charges of:
- Possession of methamphetamine, level 5 felony
- Possession of a syringe, level 6 felony
- Resisting law enforcement, class A misdemeanor
- Possession of a handgun without a license, class A misdemeanor
- Possession of marijuana, class B misdemeanor
- Possession of paraphernalia, class C misdemeanor
Both were being held on a $10,000 bond each.
