Two dead in La Porte County crash

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. – Two people are dead following a head on crash at the intersection U.S. 20 and Bootjack Road, east of Rolling Prairie Friday night.

According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, around 7:40 p.m.,  a Ford Mustang was traveling east on U.S. 20 when the vehicle crossed the center line and struck a Honda minivan head on.

The driver and passenger of the minivan, 47-year-old Don Kaczmarek and his wife 49-year-old Angie Kaczmarek, were killed on impact.

The driver of the Mustang, 40-year-old Tron Gorbonosenko, was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Deputies say alcohol use is suspected to have played a role in the fatal crash, however, that will be dependent on toxicology results.

The road reopened around 10: 30 p.m.
