ELKHART, Ind. -- A couple of unexpected guests paid a visit to an Elkhart manufacturing facility on Tuesday night.

Two deer broke right through a window at Dometic Industries.

At 7:00 p.m., police dispatch noted that the plant had called them.

"They had two deer run through their glass plate window. One is still inside the plant causing damage," dispatch says

One of the deer, ducking around employees and causing damage inside.

The other did manage to escape.

Elkhart Police had to use a shot gun and euthanize the deer still inside.

"When there are instances like this, they send law enforcement out first, and then if law enforcement needs backup, then they'll dispatch us," says Anne Reel, the Executive Director of the Humane Society of Elkhart County.  "However, in this case, we were not called so law enforcement took on the responsibility to manage this."

Unfortunately, managing this situation meant shooting the deer.

"If two deer run through window, they're going to have severe lacerations which means there's a lot of bleeding," Reel explains. "The most humane thing you can do is put it down as quickly as possible."

While they haven't had any deer calls recently, Animal Control is called out to help with wildlife quite often, along with police

"Law enforcement will generally be the first response in these situations. We don't carry guns, and if an animal does need to be euthanized we wouldn't be able to do that."

Officials inside of Dometic Industries would not tell ABC57 News what was damaged or how many shots were fired.

They did say that this was a very unfortunate situation.
