Two men arrested for allegedly possessing a stolen vehicle

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Two men were arrested on Tuesday evening by a South Bend Police officer for allegedly possessing a vehicle that was reported stolen out of Georgia.

An officer activated patrol vehicle lights after spotting a reportedly stolen license plate number on the back of an SUV that was parked in the Eddy Street Commons area, police say.

Police say the occupants of the SUV took off and began a pursuit before disregarding multiple stop signs and weaving in and out of traffic.

The SUV came to a stop on Leeper Avenue when the vehicle’s power shut down due to disconnected battery cables, police say.

Police say the two men in the SUV were taken into custody and two handguns were recovered from the vehicle.

Confirmation was made that the SUV was reported stolen out of Georgia and the vehicle's Michigan license plate was reported stolen out of Tennessee, police say.
