UPDATE: Seven Michiana counties issue travel advisories Wednesday afternoon

UPDATE: As of 5 p.m., LaGrange, Fulton, and Kosciusko Counties have joined La Porte, Elkhart, St. Joseph, and Marshall Counties in issuing Travel Advisories for Wednesday (Feb. 12) night. 

According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, a Travel Advisory is the lowest level of local advisory and means that routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation, and individuals should use caution or avoid those areas.

UPDATE: As of 3:45 p.m., there are currently four counties with Travel Advisories as La Porte and Elkhart Counties have joined St. Joseph and Marshall.

ORIGINAL: ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Both Marshall and St. Joseph Counties issued travel advisories on Wednesday afternoon in preparation for impactful snowfall that is expected to hit Michiana this evening. 

A travel advisory is the lowest on the three-tier scale of Travel Warning, Travel Watch, and Travel Advisory that each county's emergency management team manages.
