Two Mishawaka elementary students struck in hit-and-run this afternoon

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- According to Mishawaka Police, at around 2:10 p.m. this afternoon there was a hit and run crash at the intersection of East Day and Merrifield Avenue (Filbert Road) and two students from Walt Disney Elementary School were hit by a blue sedan.

Police say the two boys were crossing the road with a crossing guard when the vehicle disregarded the crossing guard and hit the two students.

"After the students were struck, the vehicle left the scene, eastbound on Day Road," Sgt. Steve Headley of the Mishawaka Police Department. "One of the students was transported via ambulance for treatment. The other student left with his parent(s). Fortunately, neither student appeared to be seriously injured."

The Mishawaka Police are looking for a blue or turquoise sedan, possibly either a Hyundai or Pontiac Grand Am.
