Two people severely injured in Cass County crash

CASS COUNTY, Ind. – Indiana State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Road 825 West near Cass County Road 250 North Saturday morning, where two people were severely injured.

According to police, Brady Riley, 19, was driving southbound on County Road 825 West when he traveled off the west side of the road into the wooded area, hitting multiple trees.

Riley was extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and flown by medical helicopter to a Fort Wayne hospital with possible broken bones and internal injuries.

James Hornback, 21, a passenger at the time was ejected from the vehicle.

Hornback was also flown by medical helicopter with his left leg severed below the knee.

Trooper Chris Miller applied a tourniquet to Hornback’s leg, possibly saving his life before medics arrived to the scene.

Neither Riley nor Hornback were wearing seat belts at the time, and police say it is undetermined as to the cause of the crash.

This is an ongoing investigation.
