Two separate crashes result in deaths of two horses

LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. – Two different crashes along U.S. 20 have resulted in the deaths of two horses, the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office reported.

At 5:35 a.m. Tuesday morning, police were called to U.S. 20 near C.R. 1200 W. for reports of accidents involving vehicles and horses.

The driver of one vehicle, a Greenwood, Indiana man, was traveling westbound on U.S. 20 when he hit a horse in the road, causing heavy damage to the hood and the top of the vehicle.

The vehicle continued its momentum northwest into a field.

The driver was extricated from the vehicle and flown to a Fort Wayne hospital due to injuries to his head and face.

The driver of the other vehicle, a Ligonier, Indiana woman, was also traveling westbound on U.S. 20 when she hit a horse in the road, causing heavy damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle.

There were several horses on the loose in the area at the time of the accidents, police said. Two different horses entered the path of the drivers, resulting in the crashes.

Both horses died as a result of the accidents.
