Two shootings at two locations likely related

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office says two shootings at two separate locations, just hours apart, are likely related.

Deputies were called to the 51000 block of Downey Street at 11:17 p.m. Sunday for reports of a shooting.

Steven Nobles, 34, reported someone came to his home and shot a gun through his sliding glass door.

Nobles was struck, causing a minor injury.

Nobles retrieved a gun and fired it in the direction he thought the shot originated, deputies said.

Nobles refused medical treatment.

At 2:30 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to a different residence in the 51000 block of Downey Street and discovered 42-year-old Bryan Berry with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Deputies said his injury was not life threatening.

The preliminary investigation into the second shooting revealed Nobles went to the scene of the second shooting and made threats to the occupants, reports said.

At some point, Berry and Nobles got into a physical fight in the road.

Witnesses said Nobles knocked Berry to the ground, retrieved a gun from his vehicle and shot Berry in the legs, reports said.

Nobles then fled the scene. He has not been located.

Deputies said they want to speak with Nobles. If you have any information about his whereabouts, please use the anonymous tipline on the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office website.
