TRAIL CREEK, Ind. – A fire tore through the Trail Creek Fraternal Order of Police Lodge Thursday morning, sending two people to the hospital.

An official with the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office said the fire started around 3:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Johnson Road.

The two victims lived in an apartment above the lodge. The male victim reportedly jumped out of a second story window to the ground.

Officials say a female victim was found critically injured and unconscious upon their arrival.

Both were taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Michigan City.

Michigan City officials confirmed on Thursday that the female victim died.

Investigator Michael Raymer with LPCSO noted weather conditions were a hassle as well as a limited water supply.

“It was intense at one time. A lot of flames, a lot of fire,” said Raymer. “I think big problem was obviously the weather with it being 19 degrees out here, it doesn’t help at all.”

The cause of fire has not been determined.
