Two-vehicle crash in Cass County leaves 67-year-old Elkhart man dead
CASS COUNTY, Mich. - The Cass County Sheriff's Office reports that Thursday night around 6:54 p.m., deputies responded to the area of Cassopolis Road and Bullhand Street for reports of a two-vehicle crash involving a deer.
Officials say their investigation shows that 20-year-old Alyssa Handschu, of Osceola, Ind., was driving northbound on Cassopolis Road when she struck a deer that was on the road.
The investigation then shows a second vehicle, driven by 67-year-old Daniel Haskett, of Elkhart, Ind., was traveling southbound on Cassopolis Road when the impact of the first crash propelled the deer through Haskett's windshield.
Haskett then drove off the roadway where his vehicle came to rest.
Handschu was uninjured from the crash.
Haskett was pronounced deceased on scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash and that all involved wore seatbelts.
This crash remains under investigation.
