UPDATE: Police determine cause of fatal two-vehicle crash on S.R. 2 Thursday
UPDATE THREE: St. Joseph County FACT has identified the deceased driver of the passenger vehicle as 37-year-old Jeremy Richards of St. Joseph County.
The investigation is ongoing.
UPDATE TWO: The St. Joseph County Police Department reports officers responded to a two-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of S.R. 2 near Pear Road around 7:30 p.m., Thursday.
Once police learned one person had died in the crash, the St. Joseph County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was activated.
The report states an SUV was traveling west on S.R. 2 when a passenger vehicle pulled out of a driveway at which point the vehicles collided.
The SUV's driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the passenger vehicle was the individual pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim's name is being withheld at this time.
The crash remains under investigation by FACT.
UPDATE: Upon arrival on the scene of the crash, crews immediately worked to perform extrication of one of the drivers. Despite rapid response and life-saving efforts, one driver succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The other driver was evaluated and transported for further evaluation and medical assessment.
ORIGINAL STORY: ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) is currently investigating a two-vehicle crash.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., St. Joseph County Police were dispatched to the westbound lanes of S.R. 2 near Rear Road.
Upon arrival on scene, officers learned that one individual had died as a result of the crash.
FACT was then activated to conduct a full investigation into the crash.
The westbound lanes of S.R. 2 are currently closed between Pear and Quince Roads, only one eastbound lane remains open. Please avoid the area at this time.
The crash is still being investigated, additional information will be released as the investigation carries on.
