Unconscious driver arrested for neglect, OWI

ELKHART, Ind. -- A driver was arrested after being found unresponsive at a stop light on N. Michigan with a child in the back seat, according to Elkhart Police.

At 12:40 a.m. Wednesday, an officer arrived to W. Bristol and N. Michigan streets for a disabled vehicle call.

A silver Toyota Avalon was in the northbound lanes of Michigan Street at the stop light, but did not move when the light turned green, reports said.

Two women were in the front of the vehicle and they were both unresponsive. An infant was in a car seat in the back seat.

The driver became responsive and got out of the vehicle.

The driver, 19-year-old Mattisyn Campbell, was taken into custody on preliminary charges of neglect of a dependent, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person and minor consuming alcohol.

The passenger was released from the scene.

The infant was released to a relative.
