Under the Lights: St. Joseph Huskies walk away with Sectional Championship trophy over Mishawaka, first sectional title win since 2015

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- For the first time since 2015, the St. Joseph Huskies took home the Sectional Championship trophy!

The Huskies keep their season alive after a 13-7 win over the Mishawaka Cavemen at Steele Stadium Friday night.

It was a textbook ground and pound low-scoring game, but the Huskies were able to do something a lot of teams can't: they put a stop to the Mishawaka Wing-T.

St. Joseph Head Coach Ben Downey says he's proud of his team for pulling out of a competitive 4A bracket, and this win proves a lot for a team that has overcome a lot of hardships this season.

"It proves that if we stick to Saint Joe football, which is just being tough, we talked to our squad about fight right, we have a lot of fight in this team. And there's still room for improvement, because these guys actually can prepare better. So, they compete as hard as anyone competes, and if we ever get them to match their preparation level to the level that they compete, look out," says Ben Downey, St. Joseph High School Football Head Coach.

The Huskies now advance to regionals as they hope to keep chipping away in the postseason with their 11-1 record.
