Union Township, UNAS resolve ambulance dispute

ABC 57

LAKEVILLE, Ind. -- Documents from the St. Joseph Circuit Court reveal on Aug. 22, Union Township filed a motion to vacate the lawsuit against Union-North Ambulance Service (UNAS) for allegedly stripping an ambulance for parts before returning the vehicle to the township.

The motion to vacate was granted.

The lawsuit had been ongoing since April 2024.

The complaint originally came from Union Township's trustee, who said the relationship between Union and UNAS became contentious in early 2024, leading to the termination of their 2018 contract.

This left ambulance services up to the township, which was to receive one of the two ambulances UNAS had, but when they got their 2015 Ford ambulance vehicle back, it was missing more than $150,000 of equipment needed to operate like an ambulance.
