United Auto Workers reaches tentative agreement with Stellantis

After 44 days of strike, the United Auto Workers have reached a tentative agreement with Stellantis--now reaching two-thirds of the Big Three Automakers.

Following the tentative agreement reached with Ford on October 25, UAW President Shawn Fain and Vice President Rich Boyer, took to X on Saturday, October 28 to announce the "victorious" progress in #StandUpUAW.

"Just weeks ago," begins Fain, "We were told it was impossible. The power of the Stand Up strike cannot be understated."

According to Fain, Stellantis more than doubled their previous proposals over the 44-day strike.

Fain broke down the next steps following their tentative agreement.

If the UAW council agrees to send the tentative agreement to membership, the UAW will post a Facebook live on Thursday, November 2, keeping the public informed with each process.

Next informational meetings will take place with local leadership and to answer the public's questions.

For Vice President Rich Boyer, this is a topic close to his heart.

Eight years ago, Stellantis retired the Belvidere Assembly Plant, putting 1,200 workers "on the street." said Boyer.

"From the day they came after Belvidere, I swore one thing: we weren't going to let them kill another working-class community."

From negotiations with Stellantis, the UAW has revived past plants.

"From the strength of our Stand Up Strike, we will bring back thousands of jobs to Belvidere."

Stellantis wanted to cut 5,000 jobs, but the Stand Up Strike changed those numbers.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, released a statement, following UAW's announcement applauding strong agreement they fought for.

“This agreement will raise wages for workers and shore up the company’s footprint in Michigan," wrote Gov. Whitmer in a press released. "As governor, I am focused on building on our century-long leadership in auto manufacturing, and with this strong agreement, I know we will define the next century too."

According to Fain, after the agreement, Stellantis will add 5,000 more jobs.
