United Way's annual coat drive collects warm weather attire for community members in need

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – United Way of Elkhart & LaGrange Counties’ annual coat drive collected over 750 coats this year for local kids and families in need.

The coat drive, sponsored by Insight Accounting Group, donated over 500 children’s’ coats to local schools along with 500 hats knitted by incarcerated individuals at the Elkhart County Jail.

The remaining coats will be donated to five nonprofits in the area, which include:

  • ADEC
  • Elkhart County Clubhouse
  • Faith Mission
  • Goshen Interfaith Hospitality Network
  • The Window

Over 50 schools and businesses in the area had collection bins stationed in their buildings for donations.

United Way was able to add to their collection bins by purchasing additional coats thanks to donations from the Elkhart County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and a discount from Meijer.
