UPDATE: 11-year-old Niles boy still in critical condition after near drowning

NILES, Mich. -- An 11-year-old boy is still alive and in critical condition at Memorial Hospital after he nearly drowned in his family's swimming pool!

Berrien County Police responded to the Paul Street home on Tuesday night.

A sheriff deputy told us on Wednesday that the special needs child fell into the pool and was pulled out by family.

Police don't know how long the boy was in the pool, but neighbors said he was under the water for eight to 10 minutes.

Those close to the family said that he is sedated to prevent brain swelling.
