U.S. 35 crash leaves one person dead
LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. – One person has died following a crash on U.S. 35 in Center Township Monday morning, the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office reported.
At 11:43 a.m., deputies were called to the 3900 north block of U.S. 35, in rural Center Township, for reports of a personal injury crash.
At 11:50 a.m., deputies arrived to the scene and confirmed one person had been killed in the crash.
According to reports, a red 2015 Volkswagen passenger vehicle, driven by 51-year-old Corbin Gayheart of Knox, was traveling north on U.S. 35 when, for an unknown reason, Gayheart drove left of center and into the southbound passing lane.
Gayheart drove into the path of a red 2011 Dodge pickup truck traveling in the southbound passing lane, resulting in a head-on crash.
Gayheart was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was trapped in his vehicle and once extracted, was transported to a nearby hospital.
This crash is currently under investigation.
