U.S. Army veteran and former Irish basketball player honored

A former Fighting Irish basketball star and courageous Army veteran was honored for her service.

Former University of Notre Dame basketball player and U.S. Army veteran Danielle Green was the keynote speaker at the St. Joseph Health System’s Medical Center in Mishawaka Wednesday.

She said it’s important to honor veterans because of the sacrifices they make each day.

“Freedom is not free, as most veterans will tell you,” said Green. “We must honor veterans with deeds and actions, and not just words.  All sacrifice something so that we could enjoy the freedoms we have today.”

The event was part of the annual event held by St. Joseph Health Systems to honor all veterans.
