The US Department of Labor is suing a local business owner in federal court after he allegedly violated a settlement to pay more than $354,000 in back wages and damages.
The agency wants a temporary restraining order against Bhola Singh, who owns 61 "Mega Liquor and Smoke" stores in Indiana and Michigan.
The suit claims Singh violated a settlement to pay more than $354,000 in back wages and damages to 156 employees for minimum wage and overtime violations.
The department says he demanded employees sign receipts claiming they received those back wages when he had not paid them.
They're now asking a judge to require Singh to cooperate with investigators and to not intimidate his workers who cooperate with investigators.
There' been no comment from Singh as of Friday night.
