USPS looks to rent postal delivery vans

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The United States Postal Service is looking at ways to cut costs. And one of those ways maybe renting instead of buying.

The USPS is looking to rent mail delivery vans instead of buying new ones. The postal service is looking to solicit federal contract bids to lease minivans and cargo vans.

The cost of replacing nearly 200,000 older mail cars and trucks could approach $6 billion. The finanically strapped agency is facing massive debt.

Last year, the postal service defaulted twice on payments owed to the federal government.
