Utility bills in Michigan may be on the rise

MICHIGAN -- Residents in Michigan might want to take a closer look at their utility bills this winter.

Michigan Utility Regulators said bills for natural gas users could be higher because of increased consumption.

The commission's forecast is based on weather returning to normal from last winter when energy consumption was below normal.

Customers using propane for heating are likely to see little change in their bills.

In Michigan, 77 percent of households heat their homes with natural gas and nine percent use propane.
