MISHAWAKA, Ind.—A car crashed into a house on Wednesday morning, slowing traffic near Mishawaka High School.
Lincolnway East near Mishawaka High School was closed to traffic during the investigation.
The Mishawaka Fire Department said a call came in at 6:36 a.m. alerting them to a vehicle that had crashed into a building on the 1200 block of Lincolnway East.
The driver, a 30-year-old male, was unresponsive when officers arrived.
An off-duty sheriff reserve performed CPR on the driver and a Mishawaka police officer administered NARCAN to the driver.
Police said they administered Narcan to the driver because he was unconscious when they arrived at the scene. They administered it out of an abundance of caution because they say it doesn't do any harm if the person did not need it.
The driver was taken to Memorial Hospital in serious condition.
There were people present in the house at the time of the crash and the house sustained significant damage.
Prior to crashing into the house, the car was traveling eastbound on Lincolnway East and drove through Mishawaka High School’s yard and hit a pole.
The St. Joseph County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) is investigating the crash.
