NOW: Vice President Kamala Harris campaigns in Detroit, Michigan

DETROIT, Mich. -- Vice President Kamala Harris and her newly appointed running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, campaigned tonight Aug. 7 in the Detroit region.

Tonight's rally in Detroit was her second of the day, after making a stop this morning in Eau Claire Wisconsin.

ABC57's Dante Stanton was at the Detroit Metro Airport to cover the rally.

The atmosphere for the Harris-Walz rally was electric, with the crowd inside the signature aviation hangar that was packed to the brim, even spilling to outside the hanger.

Chants and cheers for the Harris campaign, just one day after announcing Walz as the Vice-Presidential Nominee.

"I don’t know how I can explain to you walking into that arena in Philly, or that field house in Wisconsin. Or right here and what I’ve been told is the largest rally of the campaign," stated Walz.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, the co-chair of the Kamala Harris campaign, topped a series of speakers supporting the Democratic ticket.

Whitmer stated, “I woke up in big Gretch mode this morning. And I am fired up to all the Kamala Harris for our president!"

“We are going to secure rights, and we are going to vote," stated 11th District Congresswoman Hailey Stevens.

Harris herself, taking the stage in Michigan for the first time as a Presidential candidate, with her last visit coming just five days before President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.

Harris, acknowledging the importance of battleground states like, like Michigan, stating, "the path to the White House runs right through this state. And with your help, we WILL win in November.”

The current Vice President, also taking shots at former President Donald Trump.

Harris stated, “Across our nation, we are witnessing a full-on attack on hard, fought hard, one fundamental freedoms and rights, and we will not stand for it!”

Pointing to positive polling numbers to wrap up her speech, Harris still emphasized that she'll need support from Michiganders to secure the presidency this Nov. stating, "we’re not going back. Our fight is a fight for the future, and it is a fight for freedom!”

The next stop for the Harris campaign is a trip to Savannah Georgia then Phoenix Arizona this Friday, with a stop in Las Vegas on Saturday as the next phase in their battleground blitz.
