Victim of fatal LaPorte accident identified

The LaPorte County Sheriff's Office says a man from Iowa was killed in a two vehicle accident on US20 at CR600 E Monday morning.

The accident happened around 10 a.m. just a mile east of Rolling Prairie.

The investigating deputy determined a Toyota Prius making a turn from US20 to CR600 E turned in front of a Ford Explorer traveling east on US20.

The passenger in the Prius, 66-year-old William Harrold of Council Bluffs Iowa, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Prius, 53-year-old Laura Winter, was airlifted from the scene to St. Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka.

Winter told deputies her view was obstructed by snow in the median.

The driver of the Prius and the driver of the Explorer tested negative for alcohol.

All occupants were wearing their seat belts.
