VIDEO: Michigan State Police helps rescue 11-year-old Berrien County dog from hole in the ground

NILES, Mich -- A Michigan State Police Trooper from the Niles responded to a unique call in Watervliet Township last week when he arrived on scene to find a dog had fallen into a large gas line hole.

"Eleven-year-old Sophie and her owner couldn't have been more relieved when Niles Post Tpr. Justin Van Nuil responded to a dog trapped in a large hole last Thursday, Oct. 10, around 10 p.m.," MSP posted on social media this week. "Sophie was being walked by her owner when she accidentally fell into an estimated five to six-foot-deep gas line hole."

With help from Sophie's owner, the Trooper was able to use a welch hitch to get Sophie out safely and unharmed.
