Vikings hope for repeat performance from week six victory over Jimtown
AKRON, Ind. -- The postseason is here in the Hoosier state, and we have a dandy for our Game of the Week, as Tippecanoe Valley and Jimtown face off for the second time this season.
Back in week six, these two teams squared off in a defensive slugfest, with the Vikings leaving Sharpe Stadium with a 17 to 15 win. Friday night, the stakes will be higher, and head coach Steve Moriarty knows this won't be the same Jimtown team as a few weeks ago.
"I think they're going to adjust to things that we hurt them with and we'll do the same, and I think that it'll be a little bit of back and forth, at the beginning of the game until things settle in. It is an advantage though, to see how they're going to line up to different things, but you can tell, overall, in a game like that, that if we had any success, they'll adapt to it," said Moriarty.
In order for Tippecanoe Valley to keep their season going, Moriarty tells ABC57 the elite Vikings defense is not only going to need to show up but make their presence known.
"We've got a good group of defensive players, our front line is one of the better we've had in a few years, the linebackers fly around and the secondary is very seasoned," said Moriarty.
"I think just plugging up the run, that's what they want to do, that's what they wanted to do against us earlier this season and if we plug that up, I think we'll have a good shot with our secondary, stay disciplined, and I think if we do that, our odds are in our favor," said Owen Omondi, senior safety.
ABC57 asked the Vikings if they think the fact they've already played the Jimmies this year might be an advantage versus if they played a team, they hadn't previously seen this season.
"We've been seeing okay what did we do wrong, how have we let them into the game last time, and how we react to what they do, and so I think all those adjustments, we've learned from it even. We looked back at week four when we played them, but we even came back to them, and all week we've been building for what we can do better," said Omondi.
The Vikings and Jimmies will kick off from Sharpe Stadium Friday night at 7 p.m.
