Vincennes fire destroys a half of a block of buildings and businesses

VINCENNES, Ind. -- A large fire has drastically changed the cityscape of Vincennes.

Fire destroyed nearly a half of a block of historical buildings and businesses.

The fire started late Saturday night in the old Gimbles corner building, and quickly spread.

Luckily, no one was hurt.

Some of the buildings are over 200 years old.

Several fire departments were called in to help, while hundreds watched in disbelief.

"I've seen a lot of fires in Vincennes, but this is the largest one I've ever seen,"

"History. And it's gone. I mean, honestly, you can look, and honestly see. It cannot be rebuilt,"

Investigators do not know what caused the fire and they likely never will.

The city already started tearing down the buildings, because they were in danger of collapsing.
