SOUTH BEND, In. -Community members and local organizations came together on Saturday, April 23 to repair homes for those who need them the most. It was part of Rebuilding Together St. Joseph County’s Community Volunteer Day.

Volunteers dedicated their time to help assist homeowners with home repairs, which included cleaning, landscaping, painting, and general home improvements on the west side of South Bend. A total of 15 homes were fixed through the program.

Some local organizations that donated their time included some Notre Dame employees, who spent their weekend's painting and landscaping a house.

“We live in a small community and we should be doing more of this and I think from Notre Dame’s perspective, we want to do this. We owe it to the community and we need to pull people together like this more often,” the Construction director at Notre Dame Tony Pollotto said.

Other local organizations, donated their time, as well including Cressy and Everett Real Estate, who had 12 people on their team, painting and beautifying the exterior of one home.

One volunteer said his favorite part is seeing the process carry out.

“We wanted to give back to the community there are about 200 volunteers on this project and this day. It’s a beautiful day for it, and you know we thought we’re in the business of real estate, community building and we thought it was a good fit for us,” a volunteer with Cressy and Everett Real Estate, Quinn Thurin said.
