Volunteers visit Berrien and Cass classrooms for 'Reading Day of Action'

NILES, Mich. -- More than 10,000 children in southwestern Michigan got a special classroom visit!

Thursday was United Way's 'Reading Day of Action'.

We stopped by Mrs. Frucci's first grade classroom at St. Mary's School in Niles.

Volunteers told us that they wanted to participate to encourage parents to read to their kids.

"Maybe it's worth doing.. if it's that important that people say 'I can do this, it's simple," said Konni Plue, a United Way volunteer.

More than 200 volunteers read books to classrooms in Berrien and Cass counties.
