Warsaw Parks and Recreation hosts Wipe Out! event at Pike Lake Beach
Warsaw Parks & Recreation WARSAW, Ind. -- The Warsaw Parks and Rec department brought back the popular lake event Warsaw Wipe Out! On Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Pike Lake Beach.
With the weather hot and humid today, the beach was full of families looking to cool off, and the line for the Wipe Out course was long. The parks department uses an Aqua Glide Obstacle Course, designed to be fun and challenging, to test agility and coordination.
Most participants were children, some of whom told us they were trying to go slowly so that they didn't slip and fall off the course, while others said they were going quickly so that they WOULD slip and fall off. Either way, participants were having a great time and enjoying the water.
The event is always free, but Kona Ice was on hand for purchase. Life jackets are mandatory but provided if you do not have one.
Wipe Out is a popular summer event, and the parks department will host it twice more this summer, on July 7 and July 25.
If you'd like to attend the next event, the parks department advises that parents or legal guardians need to sign waivers for each child, and that waivers can be filled out ahead of time. Forms are available online Community-Events-Waiver-2026 or at the Parks & Recreation office.
Parents must be present while children are participating. They also advise arriving early to get life vests and handle paperwork, and for all participants to wear comfortable, non-slip footwear.
Stephanie Schaefer, the Recreation Director for the Warsaw Parks Department, told us how successful the day was "As you can see, we had hundreds of people show up for this event today. I think it's very important to give them fun things to do in the summer… here at the Parks department, tons of kids are excited. People that come back every year for this, you know, are very excited to be out here today."
Obstacle participant Dane Kierpaul said "It was pretty fun. I mean, I liked jumping over everything and trying to go as fast as I could without the line, which was tricky, but… fun."
And Wipe Out! fan Liam Martin added "It's pretty fun. I mean, it's like slippery, but it's also not like dangerous at the same time, so you can like go across it fast… it was fun. (My favorite part was) probably like the little like hexagon thing, like right before the trampoline, you can go over it and stuff like inside the race. I enjoyed that."
