Warsaw teen dead following Monday night shooting, suspect in custody

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. -- The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office reports it's investigating a Monday night shooting that left a 15-year-old boy dead.

The report states deputies responded to the Suburban Acres Mobile Home Park just after 8 p.m. regarding a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, authorities found a 15-year-old boy suffering from an apparent gunshot.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene.

After interviewing multiple juveniles present at the time of the incident, another 15-year-old was detained on the preliminary charge of Reckless Homicide.

The report states a handgun was also recovered at the scene. Authorities learned this gun had been reported stolen.

The investigation is ongoing.

Warsaw Community Schools released the following statement regarding the death of the 15-year-old victim:

"Warsaw Community Schools is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our high school students. This is a difficult time for our school community, and our thoughts are with the student’s family and friends.

Counseling staff is on site, and we extend our thanks to Bowen Health for providing additional staff to support students and staff during this time.

At this time, we are working with local authorities and ask that everyone respect the family’s privacy."
