Watervliet Schools custodian dies from injuries on the job

A longtime Watervliet Schools custodian was killed on the job this week.

53-year-old Phil Dillenbeck was a 31-year veteran custodian in Watervliet and a mainstay in the schools.

The loss comes as somewhat of a shock. Dillenbeck was killed Monday.

Watervliet Police say he slipped for unknown reasons while working at the school. The injuries took his life just a few hours later at the hospital.

At the school, he is being tonight as a soft spoken hard-worker.

Kevin School, Watervliet Schools Superintendent says he will definitely be someone who is difficult to replace. “I don’t think you can replace that work ethic and pride, it’ll be difficult.”

Police say it looks to be an accident.

The schools will be holding a memorial at a basketball game later this season.
