BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Several Berrien County-area fire departments responded to blazes that broke out at a barn on the 2000 block of Red Bud Trail in Bertrand Township around 3 a.m. Thursday.
The barn is owned by the Vite family, a farm that's been operating since the 1920's. The Vites sell sweet corn and other produce to Martin's Supermarkets.
The barn and its contents are considered a total loss.
The structure housed small tractors, car parts and some potentially hazardous chemicals.
Crews say they contained the chemical runoff to a certain area and prevented ground contamination.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
