Western Michigan University announces mandatory COVID-19 testing for unvaccinated individuals
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan University announced that any student, staff or faculty member that is unvaccinated will be required to be tested every week until they are fully vaccinated on Saturday.
Weekly testing will happen until the end of September. The university has yet to determine if this frequency will continue after Oct. 1. Testing will take place at the Sindecuse Health Center on campus.
Unvaccinated students on campus are required to be tested on the week of Aug. 29. Unvaccinated staff, faculty and students not living on campus are required to be tested on the week of Sept. 5.
Students, staff and faculty can avoid testing by providing their vaccination record through the patient portal by Wednesday, Aug. 18. Those who are considered fully immunized two weeks after their final shot and has been verified by the university’s health center.
On Aug. 30, a walk-up and drive-up vaccination clinic will be held at the SHC from 8:30 to 11:30 am. On Aug. 31, another vaccine clinic will be held at the SHC from 1-4 pm. No appointment is necessary, but the university asks individuals to bring a valid WMU ID.
