"Interim X logo goes live later today," posted Elon Musk to his Twitter account on July 23.
Earlier he wrote, "And we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds."
What spurred this change?
Since Musk's ownership over Twitter in 2022, a $14 billion acquisition, there's been a slew of changes, including layoffs.
So, is rebranding just next on the agenda?
It's noticeable that Musk likes the letter X.
In fact, his spacecraft company is called Space X.
Could the X social media app be branding for promoting Space X?
Part of their mission states, "Space X is working on the next generation of fully reusable launch vehicles that will be the most powerful ever built. capable of carrying humans to Mars and other destinations in the solar system."
Before the rebranding announcement, Musk posted a poll of users' opinion on the twitter colors.
74.8 percent of users preferred blue, and 25.2 percent preferred black.
Musk wrote that he loves "negative feedback" and changed the site's color to black anyway.
It's also uncanny that his two children with the Canadian singer Grimes, both have names that phonetically start with X.
His son, X AE A-XII, pronounced X, was born in 2020 and his daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, was born via surrogate. Her nickname is Y, due to X already being taken.
