Where to vote: Elkhart County consolidated vote centers ready for 2016 election

Elkhart County is ready for the 2016 election, with a new set of 27 consolidated vote centers which election officials say will help voters find the right ballot for their district, no matter where they go.

There are 12 locations in Elkhart, seven in Goshen, two in Bristol and one each in Dunlap, Millersburg, Middlebury, New Paris, Nappanee and Wakarusa.

November 8th will mark the first time these new centers have been put to the test in a presidential election, since their implementation two years ago.

"Voters can expect to vote at whatever location is convenient for them, provided they have the required ID." said Elkhart County Clerk Wendy Hudson.

The creation of the streamlined centers was made possible by a shift to statewide voter registration for this election; an improvement over the previous system of 117 precinct locations throughout the county. Now, electronic poll books can tap into that statewide database and allow voters to cast their ballots wherever is most convenient for them.

The center locations are distributed by population, as well as specifically placed along Interurban Trolley Lines.

"We intentionally made sure a large number of centers were put along public transportation routes," said Elkhart County Election Board member, Wayne Kramer.
